...we're working our way up there~

We've had a really sucsessful day filming at one of our locations, Warren House. We planned before hand exactly where and what we would film to ensure we had an effective and smooth running day. We started by filming at the outside locations begining with the gazebo, we got Emily to sing through the song whilst filming from as many angles as possible. We then did some more outside filming of things such as an establishing shot of the location, all of the outside filming went well and the sunny weather really helped.

We then moved to filming inside Warren house, we filmed at the grand stairs which looked really effective, we then moved to filming in the library which again went well, however we did have a few lighting issues due to being next to a window! Overall it all went really well and i think all of the footage will be usable and because we planned before hand it really gave us an advantage.

On another topic, we looked further at similar artist and music videos. We took note of scenes and shots that we liked, and were thinking of having in our own video. A couple of examples are Dido lying in the leaves in "Don't leave home" and Taylor Swift's "Love Story" where we know of a gazebo-like area that looks like her pillar-castle setting. Hopefully we'll get them in our video somewhere.

We all met up today in the morning knowing that it would take a whole afternoon to get the footage we needed. We ended up filming all that we wanted to and more, since as we walked from planned place to place, we saw other locations that we thought we could use.

However, the battery kept on running out in the camera, so we had to keep going indoors to charge it, meaning that we spent longer than we meant to, which caused our 'artist' to be slightly annoyed. So we've learnt that we either need a spare battery pack or camera just so everything goes according to plan.

Today we went out and shot at Richmond Park. We took two cameras, two tripods with us and firstly set up by a low tree that Emily could sit on. We had Emily mime to Fallen and filmed it all the way through the song from various angles. We then went down into the forest and filmed Emily walking through the trees and then her lying in leaves singing. We managed to get a lot of good footage and were very pleased with it all.

In the lesson today we discussed what and when we would be able to film. We agreed that the next day would be good to film as the weather was forecast to be quite good. We also knew that Emily was available during the day, as we were as well. We agreed on the location, which would be Richmond Park as it was close enough for us to just film in the afternoon, as we knew that we would only have the afternoon, and we had to make sure we filmed enough before it started to get dark. We had already visited Richmond Park and so we knew what areas we wanted to film in, we discussed what shots we needed and where each one would be filmed. We continued to make our storyboards to help get an idea of what parts of the song would be appropriately located in Richmond Park.

Also we had to book our equipment and make sure we knew who was bring what. The equipment we're using:

  • 2 mini dv cameras,
  • 2 tripods and,
  • a monopod

We visited Warren House on Wednesday and Garson's Farm today. As the Warren House photos were taken on a different camera, I will only be uploading the Garson's photos today. We realised that the corn fields were the best place to film, as they were the only place which would fit in our music video:

In lesson today we discussed whether Emily would be able to play the guitar for our music video. We decided that we will have someone to teach her part of the song at least. We also continued story boarding.

Here are what the storyboards are looking like so far:

As you can see, we're thinking that there ought to be a lot of close ups, and we're actually quite determind to have a lot of beautiful scenery and nature shots with her in them. We've also decided that if we can, we'll use this gazebo-like area at Warren House where Sarah Evans works, as it fits in in with the lyrics and theme of our music video.
